Sinkers and Floaters

I had missed my old row boat that I had built the year that a man landed on the moon. It did not last in the intense heat of our summers. I found a rowboat at a good price, now I had to take it to the lake , but there was never a time that I could leave my wife who needed my help. One Friday afternoon my daughter was home so I at last took the old pickup with the boat to Whiskeytown lake. They keep the water level up, so I could use the boat ramp. I used to be more agile and lighter in weight, but I remembered all the good times rowing on the lake in the 1970's.

I put one foot into the side of the boat and immediately it tipped and I lost my balance. Splash into the water I went, half submerged, one leg in the boat , one leg kicking in the water, one arm on the bottom of the lake and my head just sticking out of the water. I was helpless, no one around, which was good for what was left of my pride. With a hand on the bottom I walked the boat slowly up the sloping ramp until the boat was on solid  ground and  I was able to get both feet free. By this time I was half wet and my fishing hat that I put on was  full of mud.  This time I pulled the boat on solid ground and entered it from the end, somewhat shaken from this ordeal, I was in no mood to go boating, but I had to go out, after all, wasn't this what I so much wanted? Be careful what you desire, you just may get it.

Mat 14:29  And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
Mat 14:30  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
Mat 14:31  And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

My camera bag was floating on the bottom of the boat, but was waterproof. I pulled out my camera and took a picture of my great boat adventure. The surface of the lake was a little choppy, I was shaking a bit, it was a beautiful lake, but why was I on it?

The boat dock looked kind of far away for this seasoned boatman and my thoughts were on arriving back and getting out of the boat safely. The great day at the lake came to an end as I safely made it to shore. Another boater helped me push the rowboat into the back of the pickup. On my way home I pulled over in a market parking lot and was going to phone home to tell them all was well. Oh oh? The phone was in the wet side pocket and it would not work. It just vibrated. On the way home the phone vibrated like a cat purring. I had to buy a new phone, but it was a cheap one. I am sure the next trip will be much better than this maiden voyage.

Mat 8:24  And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
Mat 8:25  And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
Mat 8:26  And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
Mat 8:27  But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

On an early Monday I took my fishing pole to the nearby pond at the park. They had recently stocked it with trout and there was no one else at the pond this morning. I felt the presence of the Lord, his peace and majesty in his creation.

Psa 23:2  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
Psa 23:3  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Psa 23:4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

At the end of the pond was a fisher, a blue heron who had just swallowed a small fish, or a frog. He was far away as I used a long lens to bring him closer.

Mar 1:16  Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
Mar 1:17  And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

There was a goose bathing and preening himself in the morning sun. He was not afraid of me.

In the river two swans swim silhouetted. One makes a heart shape with its crooked neck reflected in the water. Maybe it was a message of love? The Bible is God's message of love to us.

John 3:14  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
Joh 3:15  That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
