Shasta Dam 2022

Sunday after church we drove to Shasta Lake to see the water level. Will there be enough water to keep the Sacramento river flowing?

The boat ramp was adjusted to the current water level.

Shasta Dam is about one third full. When full it will hold 4.55 million acre feet of water. This is the largest dam in California. The current level is 1.51 million acre feet.

The low water level has uncovered the remnant of the cable tower which was used in the construction of the dam in 1941.

We walked out on the dam. There were cars driving across and as you can see it is quite large.

A lot of debris was collected at the foot of the dam.

The down side of the dam shows the hydroelectric powered generators to supply power to the western U.S. electric power grid.

This is the third year of draught and the water flow is minimal.

The water flows from Shasta Dam to Keswick Dam and this becomes the mighty Sacramento river. The river still flows and there still is a lot of water in the dam.  We surely could use a lot of rain. In the past I have seen the water level low where it was said that it would take several years to fill it again. In one season God brought rain to fill the dam. God is able. He is our source of power and provision.
