Winter Provision

Northern California has at last received rain and lots of snow in the mountains. How do the birds and animals feed in the winter?

Mat 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Mat 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

The hummingbird is a beautiful bird, uniquely designed by the LORD. We have provided a feeder to keep him full of energy; he guards it against others who wish to be fed too. There is enough for several to drink, but they do not like to share. I suppose that he sees the others as thieves.

Prov 6:30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
Prov 6:31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

A Ladderback Woodpecker finds food in the wet yard.

Prov 30:8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
Prov 30:9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

A squirrel hurries down the pecan tree when he sees the walnuts that I placed nearby. This year we had no pecans and we had the tree pruned, so he was excited to see food waiting for him.

Song 6:11 I went down into the garden of nuts to see the fruits of the valley, and to see whether the vine flourished, and the pomegranates budded.

The squirrel quickly hid each walnut in a different place in the yard.I wonder if he will remember where they are. I will find them in the Spring as new little trees grow in various places.

Gen 41:46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
Gen 41:47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.
Gen 41:48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.
Gen 41:49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.
