Water Birds - February 6, 2008

A male Wood Duck with colorful design. The dark pinstriped upper feathers contrast with the white under belly. These are one of a few ducks who nest in trees, usually over water.

Eccl 9:8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
Eccl 9:9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
Eccl 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

A pair of Double-Crested Cormorants. They spend the day diving in the water for fish and are the most common inland cormorants. Most Cormorants dive in the ocean. We used to call them hell divers. They would get in our way when fishing from the ocean piers, sometimes getting hooked because they ate the fish bait. The pond cormorants are quite shy around humans, usually flying to a safe distance.

Psa 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Psa 16:9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
Psa 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

An angry Canadian goose drake, chases away a young male from his mate.

Nahum 1:2 God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

The goose raises its wings like a choir director. I love the choirs singing together with four part harmony.

Psa 63:3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
Psa 63:4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
Psa 63:5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
Psa 63:6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
Psa 63:7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
