Manzanita

The Manzanita shrub or tree has urn-shaped flowers that the hummingbirds enjoy. The blossoms make berries that the Indians used to eat. Manzanita is Spanish for "little apple". The little apple berries when green taste like green apples.

Pro 25:8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
Pro 25:9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:
Pro 25:10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
Pro 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

The tree is a smooth mahogany colored plant. It is twisted and crooked from years of growing and battling the wind and the hot summer sun. This plant was at Whiskeytown lake.

Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Php 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
Php 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Php 2:16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

The branches reach out resembling a strong man's arm. The smooth bark peels to make way for new growth.

Isa 52:9 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.
Isa 52:10 The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

The road home goes through an old town, mostly in ruins. A general store is now a bakery where they make delicious scones. The old original wood floor adds character and memories of the past. My grandfather had a general store like this in Arkansas in the late 1890's. His name is on the street sign.

Jer 6:15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Jer 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
